No Criminal Charges Are Charged to Parents of Child Who Fell into Gorilla Enclosure

The parents of the 3 year old boy who fell into the Gorilla enclosure of the Cincinnati Zoo will be charged any criminal charges. The boy had run from his mother’s attention and dropped into the enclosure of Harambe the Silverback Gorilla. The zoo staff took action and shot the Gorilla before any more harm could come to the child. Harambe had been at the zoo since the 1990’s and was shot fatally in the head.

The Ohio attorney representing the family, Joseph Deters said in a recent interview with Yahoo News,

“None of the witnesses interviewed described the [boy’s] mother as anything but attentive to her children,” Deters said. “Our information is that the mother turned away for a few seconds to attend to another one of her young children and that is when the 3-year-old was able to climb into the gorilla enclosure.” Deters continued to say,

“Any parent who is honest with himself or herself would have to understand how this could happen to even the most attentive parent. I am very sorry about the loss of this gorilla but nothing about this situation rises to the level of a criminal charge,” Deters said.

Some witnesses believe that the mother of the boy was careless and others say she had her hands full with other children who needed her attention. Many spectators believed this to be a senseless death of an endangered species. Many speculate that the whole situation was a political scandal and racial issue. We may never know.
