Calling the event ‘Boston Tea Party x2’ on Facebook, the group allegedly planned to get the attention of white suburban wives who routinely expect to steep fresh cups of pumpkin spice chai tea this time of year.
One of the protesters — who only identified herself as Frederica — posted after the secret rally, “We had to do it. Our kids getting killed in the street by the police didn’t get their attention, but hopefully this will.”
It seems the move has worked.
Scores of posts on Twitter and Facebook from women nationwide express outrage and concern that stores will be unable to sell Pumpkin Spice Chai tea this fall.
“Fall is ruined without that tea, what if they go for the candles next?” tweeted one woman after learning of the event today.
Another tweeted, “We should just agree #BlackLivesMatter and stop all this madness right now.”
